I. Introduction

Well, I'm all set to write my first ever FAQ. I've decided that instead
of going straight ahead and writing a massive guide for some huge game,
I'm first going to write a guide on one of my favourite adventure games,
Space Quest 1.

Admittedly, I'm probably over a decade late in writing this FAQ,
however, I've looked at some websites, and there is not one piece of
information on the Space Quest games :( No! This cannot be! Space Quest
really is a good game. despite being made in 1987, it has greater
playability and replay value than some of the games that are out at the
moment.

There's no excuse for not getting this great game. I got it by buying
the Space Quest collection, but you can definitly get it somewhere on
the internet, and it's definitly worth at least trying to get it.
Providing you can get around the graphics, you might start to enjoy it.

This is version 1.0 of the FAQ. In the future, I'm planning to add more
easter eggs, glitches and codes, as well as a review and some questions.

II. Who made Space Quest?

Space Quest I was made by Sierra-on-line in 1987, who also made the
Kings Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory and Gabriel Knight series.
Space Quest was one of the first games Sierra-on-line made. Naturally,
it was a great success, and back in those days, great games spawned many
sequels, and so it did.

III. The guide

Well, this is what I'm writing this FAQ for, so here I go. As I've said
before, this is the first FAQ I've written, so feel free to e-mail me
and tell me how to make it better. Anyway, this guide is split into four
parts, so if you're stuck on a certain part of the game (not likely),
just jump to that point.

Although this guide is written to show you how to get maximum points, it
doesn't show you all the places and things to do in the game. Try
completing the game by using this guide first, and then complete it
again by exploring all of the areas. Anyway, onward to the guide!

Part 1 - Escaping the space ship Arcada

You stumble out of the broom closet - west - west - east - wait until
man enters - wallk over to the man and type "look man" - walk over to
the monitor and type "look monitor" - type "astral bodies" - wait until
the machine gets the data cartridge and then type "get cart" - west -
west - "search man" - "get keycard" - east - enter elevator east - enter
elevator - east - walk up to control panel and type "push open bay door"
- east - walk up to slot and type "put keycard in slot" - enter elevator
- walk to the control panel and type "push airlock button" - walk to the
two buttons on the wall and type "push left button" - "push right
button" - "get gadget" - "get suit" - west - walk to the control panel
and type "push platform button" - walk to the left side of the pod and
type "enter pod" - "close door" - "fasten seatbelt" - "push power
button" - "pull lever" - "push autonav"

Part 2 - On the planet Kerona

Your in the pod which has crash landed on the desert planet Kerona -
"unfasten belt" - "get kit" - "get out of ship" - walk to the front of
the ship and type "get glass" - east - east - east - you should see a
path leading up the mountain, go up the path until you get to a bridge -
cross the bridge but stop behind the rock at the other side - after a
while a spider droid should come down out of the sky, your aim is to
crush the spider droid - type "push rock" but DON'T hit return just yet
- SAVE - when the spider droid is between the two green plants, hit
return. The rock should have crushed the spider droid. If not, restore
the game and try again - When you have crushed the spider droid,
continue up the path until you get to an area with a broken arch. Walk
through the center of the arch, and you will go down on a secret
platform - You are now in a cave. You should be able to see a rock in
this area, walk up to it and type "get rock" - west - you are now in a
room with a grating. In the grating is a big green blob that kills you
and is REALLY annoying if you don't know how to do this puzzle. All you
have to do is walk along the top of the grating (ARGH! The days I spent
looking for something to kill this thing!) - walk over to the geyser and
type "put rock in geyser" - north - head to the back of the room, and
then head west - walk close to the beams and then type "hold glass in
beam" - follow the path that was previously blocked by the beams - SAVE
- walk carefully past the acid drops - "turn dial on gadget" - east - a
big fat head will come and moan at you, basically it says that you have
to destroy a beast called Orat who is living on the surface otherwise he
won't let you past! BLACKMAIL!!! Oh well, we'll forgive the fat head,
who rudely returns you to the surface to go on your quest - Follow the
path down to the bottom, noticing that the bridge is becoming more and
more unsteady each time you cross it - north - open kit - type "throw
water" but DON'T press return - SAVE - east - press return and Orat
will be blown apart - walk over to the part of Orat and type "get part"
- west - south - follow the path up all the way until you get to the
broken arch - go down on the secret platform, and get to the big head
again, remembering to avoid the blob at the grating and the acid drops -
you should now be at the big head, he wants proof so type "drop part" -
a door opens - north - walk up to the slot and type "put cart in slot" -
note the password '6858' - "get cart" - walk over to the skimmer and
type "get in skimmer" - SAVE - turn key - you've now taken off in your
skimmer and must play a very annoying sub-game. What you have to do is
to steer left and right avoiding the asteroids. Whenever you get to a
safe spot where you see no asteroids, save the game. Eventually, you
will arrive at Ulence Flats.

Part 3 - At Ulence Flats

You have arrived at Ulence Flats in your skimmer - "get key" - "get out
of skimmer" - A man should come along and ask you if he can buy your
skimmer for 30 buckazoids. Ignore him - enter bar - leave bar - the same
man will come along again but he will ask you if he can buy your skimmer
for 30 buckazoids AND a jetpack. Type "yes" - enter the bar - walk over
to the bar and type "buy beer" - "drink beer" - "buy beer" - "drink
beer" - "buy beer" - "drink beer" - after the third beer, two people
will start talking, listen to there conversation as they say something
about a sector (most likely sector HH). Now we have to find some way of
getting to sector HH, and for that, we'll need money, and 24 buckazoids
is not enough money. - Walk over to the arcade machine - The aim here is
to win 250 buckazoids, this is not an easy task as the arcade machine is
random, and as far as I know, there's no way of cheating. So save the
game first, and then bet $3 on every go. This will take a while, but
when you have $250 the machine should break, don't worry, this is all
the money we need - west - north - east - enter Droids-B-Us - follow the
person upstairs, and walk up to the white robot - "buy robot" - exit
Droids-B-Us - south - west - west - north - "buy ship" - "climb ladder"
- "push "button - the droid will ask you what sector you want to go to
(type the sector you overheard in the bar, most likely "HH") - The ship
will now take off.

Part 4 - Deltaur

"wear jetpack" - "get out of ship" - Float your way over to the door and
type "open door" - enter the door - you are now in a place with an
unopenable door. Fortunatly, there is a droid going in and out of the
door, so when it comes out of the door, quickly rush in before the door
closes - walk over to the chest and type "open chest" - "get in chest" -
You will be carried to another room - "open chest" - walk over to the
washing machine and type "open washing machine" - "get in washing
machine" - you will change into a sarien uniform - "open washing
machine" - east - walk over to the guard and type "talk guard" (Keep
talking to the guard and he will keep saying different things. If at one
point, he asks you if you have played Kings Quest III, respond by saying
'yes'. You will get 5 points!) - "kiss guard" - enter left elevator -
west - enter elevator - east - east - east - "look suit" - walk over to
the counter and type "show ID" - while the robot's gone, quickly walk to
the bottom of the counter and type "get grenade" - walk over to the
robot and he will give you a weapon - west - walk above the guard and
type "drop grenade" - east - show ID - while thr robot's gone, quickly
type "get grenade" (As far as I know, you don't use this other grenade,
but it gives you 1 point, so I guess it doesn't really matter) - west -
west - west - uh oh! You are now revealed, be extremely careful, and
save your game very often. You can fire your pulseray by pressing F6,
but be warned, the guards are very quick, and your weapon will be of no
use against the robots. Fire your gun when necessary! - enter elevator -
east - east - "search guard" - "push button" - walk up to the star
generator and type "look panel" - enter the password '6858' by using the
buttons, and then press enter button (on the panel) - west - enter
elevator - enter right elevator - walk over to the ship and type "enter
ship" - "push button"

And you've completed the game! Hopefully with 202/202 points! Woohooo!

IV. Cheats

1. Hold Alt + D to enter a special mode. Now type "get object", followed
by an object number to get any object in the game.

2. Hold Alt + D to enter a special mode. Now type "tp", followed by a
room number to get to any room in the game.

V. Easter Eggs

Easter eggs are special hidden things that are put in a game by the
programmers just for fun. Easter eggs don't actually do much, they just
provide you with fun things to try. Try some of these easter eggs:

1. At any place in the game, type "Scott" or "Scott Murphy" to get a
special message.

2. Walk behind Droids-B-Us and type "take leak". Roger will say one of
three messages.

3. Well, see the cheats section of this FAQ. These are cheats that are
not meant to be found, so I guess they count as easter eggs.

4. When you're in the ship after just escaping Arcada, type "press don't
touch button" to see a funny scene!

VI. Conclusion

Well, I'm finally finished. I actually enjoyed writing this FAQ. Ahh, I
like adventure games soooo much, but I'll probably write a FAQ on a more
up to date game next.
